The Cappa
During the summer sunset the glare of the sun reflects on the facade of Palazzo Toscani and shows the charm of the building, telling the passion and love that Giulio and Francesca Schiaretti devoted in turning this lovely building into the ancient glory. They kept unchanged colours’ refinement and finishings, the elegant taste in preserving the big stairs, the sumptuous passages and the spirit of the age, in the past used to store wine, preserves and our typical salumi ( salami) : today it has became a fitness room with modern gym equipment. We would like to tell you the extraordinary story, both human and entrepreneurial one of Paolo Baratta, the person who decided to build this palace as his general headquarter in Parma. On the ground floor there were the offices, on the first floor the apartment and in the basement the cellar-warehouse.
Who was Paolo Baratta?
He was born in Parma in 1876, he was concerned with Parmigiano – Reggiano cheese seasoning, in 1917 he started producing also tomato paste. He was one of the first businessmen in Parma who founded a company in Battipaglia, in the south of Italy.
He was the person who introduced the tinplate to export the canned goods.
Unfortunately his success ended in 1943, when a terrible bombing destroyed Battipaglia’s plant. He managed to turn his activity into tobacco growing and drying process, that had a great success at that time.
In 1974 Paolo Baratta sold the historic palace to Salvatore Robuschi, who gave it to his wife Livia Toscani.
Salvatore Robuschi, a famous businessman of Parma, in the early 2000s bequeathed Palazzo Toscani to his grandchildren Francesca and Michele, who brought it to the ancient glory, together with Giulio Schiaretti.
Today Palazzo Toscani with its elegant facade gives great value to the main street, which leads to the heart of Parma.
